News: Penang Yet To Decide On Public Transport Mode For PTMP

Aug 19, 2019

The state government of Penang is yet to decide on which mode of public transport is most suitable for the Penang Transport Master Plan (PTMP).

“We haven’t decided yet. Even the LRT conditional approval states that has to be an elevated system. It is in the condition. LRT can, monorail also can,” said Penang Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow following the opening of the Penang Signature Gold Fair (PSG) 2019.

Costing around RM46 billion, the PTMP is a state-initiated project that features an undersea tunnel connecting the island to the mainland, LRT, highways, monorail and extensive bus connectivity both on the mainland and the island, reported Bernama.

Chow had earlier said in his speech that he believed the PSG Fair including its various programmes provide delegates from other nations a good platform to explore local and international gold trading markets, while creating greater trading relationships.

The increased number of delegates from up to 17 countries serves as a yardstick on how far the industry has grown.

“I have no reason to doubt that everyone will continue to work hard for PSG to remain as the one and only unique sourcing platform for the professional gold industry in Southeast Asia,” he said.

“I believe that the PSG Fair will only grow further for many years to come.”

Jointly organised by Elite Expo Sdn Bhd and the Province Wellesley Gold & Silver Ornament Merchant Association, the four-day event aims to gather local and international traders across the world to educate each other about gold as well as its value.
